TheTruePooka did a video on Kristin Powers’ piece in the Daily Beast about Bill Maher displaying simliar behavior to Rush Limbaugh’s recent verbal diarrhea (let’s not even get into Limbaugh’s non-apology):
Now Kristin Powers is far from the only Limbaugh apologist, she’s just more into her role as a concern troll (as a “Democratic Strategist” on Fox News, she is usually doing more harm than good for the Democratic party, and she’s overtly no friend of liberals).
The problem is, that Kristin Powers is wrong (and her words are being taken and amplified on by those who seek ways to use anything lying around as a weapon to bash liberals with). Most of the time some liberals and feminists call out idiots on their crap (it’s just not possible to get all of any group to do anything all the time), but it’s just not sexy or news-worthy for people to behave well, so it doesn’t get aired. Bill Maher has been a woman-bashing dick for a long time (as well as defending Limbaugh’s apology here), and when Bill Frist manages to make him look sane – even while maintaining a depressingly conservative economic stance, I think we can say he’s got both feet firmly planted in “mildly dangerous” at the very least (don’t know about you, but excusing woman-bashing and being an unwitting ally on the war against science are both dangerous things, especially given the numbers of viewers he reaches).
But that’s not at all my point. My point is that Limbaugh commands fear and respect within the Republican Party, if only for the damage he can do to someone’s reputation, and Maher wields no such power in either party. This does not make Maher’s indiscretions more acceptable than Limbaugh’s (it doesn’t, but Limbaugh’s are almost universally worse than Maher’s, whether it’s about women or not), but it does mean that Limbaugh is much, much more dangerous than Maher.
